NuStart Behavioral Health is a Fairfax County CSA provider with immediate staffing availability and bilingual team members. Final service acceptance is based on clinical fit, eligibility, authorization, geographic availability, and the applicable funding pathway.

Children, adolescents, and families

Intensive Family Preservation Services (FFS-IFPS)

A focused, home- and community-based service for families experiencing serious emotional, behavioral, or relational challenges that place family stability at risk. Services are individualized around the youth and caregivers, with practical support delivered where concerns occur.

When to consider a referral

  • Escalating behavior, conflict, or repeated crises in the home
  • Risk of removal, placement disruption, or a higher level of care
  • Difficulty maintaining safety, routines, or consistent caregiver responses

Eligible adults

Mental Health Skill-Building Services (MHSS/MHSB)

Individualized, community-based training and support for eligible adults whose mental-health symptoms interfere with daily functioning, stability, or independent living. The service emphasizes hands-on practice and measurable progress in the person’s natural environment.

When to consider a referral

  • Difficulty maintaining daily routines, appointments, or treatment follow-through
  • Challenges managing symptoms while living independently in the community
  • Need for structured support with housing, budgeting, transportation, or resources
  • Recurring instability connected to limited coping or independent-living skills

Service may include

  • Functional assessment and person-centered goal development
  • Symptom awareness, coping strategies, and relapse-prevention planning
  • Medication-management routines and appointment follow-through
  • Personal care, household organization, budgeting, and daily living skills
  • Community resource navigation, communication, and social skills
  • Coordination with authorized providers, case managers, and natural supports
